Bud Shootout Lessons Learned

posted in NASCAR |

Generally the Bud Shootout that is part the annual Speedweek’s Pilgrimage doesn’t give too much of a clue what the 500 will bring or a good indicator of the season.

This years version didn’t stray far from that premise although there were a couple interesting things of note.

First and foremost something the Dale Jr. & CORN new car haters won’t like. Junior won, which will send some NASCAR Nation visa holders into tizzy fits. And secondly is something Junior said after race about the cars performance during the Shootout.

Earnhardt Jr. not only became a two-time winner of the Budweiser Shootout he also notes the return of some “old style” passing with the new car:

Wanna go halfsies with me in the Official Dale Earnhardt Jr. Air Cast And Splint kit sales so all the people now trying to jump back on his bandwagon and hurting themselves in the process (hey, it’s tough getting those twenty-four pack abs moving) can at least look like “real” fans?

You can have that concession, I’ll take the ambulance one. I think I can get a hold of the 1959 Cadillac S&S Ambulance/Hearse (”ECTO 1″) used in Ghostbusters, it should fit the occasion nicely.

I had to laugh at the Toyota Sprint Series comment. I sort of thought thats what its called now…..Most of the coverage was on Toyota and/or Junior. I guess Toyota figures they beat race fans into submission and force them to like them. I think plastering their name on everything race related will only fuel the hate…..

Well Sharon, if that’s the case so be it. It doesn’t matter to those with that attitude, if Toyota wasn’t in Cup they’d find something else to whine about.

Luckily, although very noisy, they are a small part of NASCAR Nation.

Tony duplicated his second place finish of last year Saturday night.

Stewart won the Shootout last year and finished 2nd in 2006.
