Glen Predictions, and Other Nonsense

Top five; Tony Stewart, Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon, Boris Said, Robbie Gordon.

Marc Goossens, a road-race and sports-car specialist from Belgium takes the wheel RYR’s CitiFinancial Ford and scores a darkhorse top fifteen. Jimmie Johnson 32nd and one lap down. Dale Jr. DNF. That is all…lets move on.

If you hadn’t noticed, it’s official. Does anyone see the irony in Mayfield starting his road to NASCAR as a fabricator, and later driver of the Shoney’s Ford for the Sadler Bros. Racing team and possibly being replaced in the #19 by Elliot Sadler? As a side note, Luke has an excellent analysis of Sadler’s Speed TV interview, bottomeline, he’s headed into the #19, and soon.

Side note II: If you’re fired after berating your boss in public, in addition to not performing up to standards, why would you seek a “legal remedy” to the termination of your contract? Why seek a “temporary restraining order?” I have little doubt Evernham has given or will give Mayfield a considerable financial settlement. So what’s the point other than play childish legalistic games? It takes a very large set of gonads for someone that was so footloose with contractual obligations when walking out on Penske Racing with 8 events left on the schedule to be seeking legal redress now. I’ll repeat what I’ve addressed before, given Mayfield’s past history if any team owner lets Mayfield come within sniffing distance of a contract they’re nuts. The man is a “Dead Man Not Driving,” to use a paraphrase of a well known jailhouse chant. (UPDATE:) Oh, look. Funny what a greased palm will do. The hearing was held and Mayfield and Evernham kissed and made-up shortly thereafter.

More news from the RYR stable. Busch Series rookie Stephen Leicht was parked by NASCAR officials during Friday’s rookie practice session when he failed to yield to a full course caution. Maybe Robert should check to see if Stephen is color blind?

  1. Goossens was a very handy F3000 driver in both Europe & Japan, in fact he kind of got stuck in that formula. He probably deserved a crack at F1 but never got it. I think he may have tested for Tyrell. As for switching to ovals in tin-tops let’s see how he goes.
