NASCAR’s Car of the Future is Today
Well not TODAYS Car of the Future, but todays as in Jan. 12 and Jan. 19 at Daytona International Speedway. Cup Series Director John Darby announced the DIS tests will be the first of 12 to be held this year in preparation for it’s competition debut in 2007. (Assuming the fall ‘06 Talladega rumors are untrue.)
The article is mostly NASCAR PR boilerplate, but one of the items being tested at DIS is interesting and could give the car a “retro-look” and harken the days (albeit in a much smaller version) of Dodge Daytonas and Plymouth Superbirds.
“It sits up off the deck lid a ways. We can use it a lot for testing purposes to learn more about what the car likes and what doesn’t like and take it from there. We have got two choices. We can just go ahead and leave the wings on them or we can go back and take that information [for the spoilers]. It’s a test piece for right now.”
Unfortunately no photos are available but they should leak out after the test. Darby also noted all teams are invited to the test but is unsure of how many will participate.
