Williams F1 Kicks Cosworth to the Curb

The “curb” is getting a workout this week. First Danica sends the NASCAR rumors packing, now Frank Williams confirms the long discussed and written about Toyota rumor.

Williams has announced a three-year engine deal with Toyota after signing an agreement with the Japanese manufacturer on Wednesday night.

The news means that from 2007 the team will receive works engines of the same specification as those of the factory squad, after a season spent running as a privateer with Cosworth power.

  1. If Cossie were to disappear from F1 all together it would be a major disappointment. Should a day come when the manufacturer’s leave & independents are all that’s left in F1 where will they find a powerplant?

I really hope (probably in vain) that Cossie can pull a badging deal or maybe some hook up with Red Bull at a commercial level.:-(

  2. The march of time goes on I guess. Cosworth has been around in many series’ over the years they won’t disappear anytime soon but from the looks of it not Formula One.

  3. Cosworth will provide engines to Midland and either Toro Rosso/Red Bull, once Red Bull evolves it’s contract situation with Ferrari.
